Fantasy

If you’re looking for a good Fantasy book, this is the best place to be. While I don’t have every Fantasy novel on the planet listed here, these are my personal favorite Fantasy books and Fantasy book series. Not all of these are reviewed yet- you’ll know which ones are, because they’ll be linked instead of plain text. I think all of the books are located in my aStore, so if you’re interested in a Fantasy book that isn’t linked to here, just go to my store and view the book there.

Fantasy Book List:

Auralia’s Colors by Jeffrey Overstreet- poetic, dark, slightly disturbing, but beautiful. Totally unique magic system.

To Darkness Fled by Jill Williamson- incredible epic Fantasy book. You’ll need to read By Darkness Hid (book 1) first, but as good as that was, only To Darkness Fled makes the final cut (haven’t read book 3 yet).

North! Or Be Eaten by Andrew Peterson- funny, funny Fantasy book. Written for kids and pre-teens (there are booger jokes), but the writing is excellent, the story is really good, and the humor is prolific.

Wheel of Time (series) by Robert Jordan- talk about epic. They claim that this 14 book series (plus a prequel) is finished, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find more coming out. The original author passed away, but the final 3 books were finished by another novelist based on his (the author’s) notes.

Harry Potter (series) by J.K. Rowling- middle grade/YA Fantasy book series that swept most of the Western world (and then some) by storm.

The Fire Rose by Mercedes Lackey- Absolutely the best of her Elemental Masters series.

The Belgariad (series) by David Eddings- Love this series! Funny, but a good story. “I was teaching him to fly.” “Did it work?” “Does bouncing count?”

Polgara The Sorceress by David & Leigh Eddings- Polgara and Belgarath are prequels to the Belgariad and the Mallorean series, both told in a pseudo memoir style.  Belgarath is excellent, but Polgara is better (though they’re best when read together- many of the same events are told from different perspectives).

Emerald House Rising by Peg Kerr- Out of print. There are some continuity issues and the writing isn’t top tier, but it’s so interesting!  Unique magic system.

Tiger Burning Bright by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Mercedes Lackey, and Andre Norton- Out of print. Interesting and unique stand-alone fantasy book written by 3 of the greatest female fantasy authors. Fun to pick out which author wrote which character.

Mists Of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley- The story of Morgana from the Arthurian legends. Beautifully told, and almost convinces you that this is the real story of King Arthur.
